By ROD AMNER In a letter to the Makana Municipal Manager, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has decreed that the five Makana Citizens Front (MCF) proportional representation councillors currently serving on Council must be replaced by the five candidates at the top of the MCF party list submitted to the IEC before last year’s local government elections. MCF proportional representation councillor Philip Machanick said the five incumbent councillors were currently “checking the authenticity of the letter”. “We are not aware of any legitimate process that could have removed us. We will say more when we know more,” Machanick said on…

Paul Maylam reported 10.1 mm in Cathcart Street for the week 7-13 April. “If only the rain around the country could be more evenly distributed, sparing KZN this terrible tragedy,” he commented. Jim Cambray measured a little more, 13.5mm, in Park Road. “Unlike some parts of the country getting over 300mm in a day! So we can appreciate the 13.5mm and not 300mm!” he said. Temperatures ranged from a cool 11 Celcius to 24C.

By CHRIS TOTOBELA Local football fans will enjoy a feast of football this coming Easter weekend. Makana LFA hosts a football tournament starting on good Friday until Easter Monday. This comes after a decade of disappointment for football fans as there haven’t been any football activities over Easter weekend for the past decade. This led to many teams leaving Makhanda and looking for action elsewhere. This has always proved to be a wasteful expenditure for most local teams as they always come back empty-handed. This tournament will allow the local sides to test their squads against different opposition from different…

Dear residents of Makana, The Easter holidays are upon us once again. This is a time many of us use to reconnect with friends and loved ones we don’t see as often as we would like during the year. Many of us will drive to other towns and provinces during this period. I want to plead with everyone who intends to travel to take the necessary precautions. Once on the road, please obey all the road traffic rules and regulations to ensure that we all arrive at our various destinations alive and well. This is a time of celebration and…
