The South African National Roads Agency SOC Ltd (Sanral) has issued a notice that controlled blasting is scheduled to take place on the N2, section 13, between Grahamstown and the Fish River Pass every Tuesday until 24 October 2017, weather permitting. “The blasts will occur at various positions along the N2 between KM81 and KM92,” the Agency said in a statement. Grahamstown Police opened a case of arson and house breaking after the Provincial Traffic Department office was gutted by fire in the early hours of Saturday. Makana Fire Services records indicate a call was made at 2.15am. “The team arrived at 2.16am,” said commanding officer on the following shift, Robert Brooks. “When they arrived, the right-hand-side of the building had collapsed. In an extraordinary tribute to health and development visionary Mary Humphreys, who passed away during the weekend, staff at the Raphael Centre continued with the Centre’s programmes this week. Humphreys was found by neighbours at her home around 1.30pm Sunday 1 October. Police immediately opened an inquest docket. Makana Municipality has no plan to extend the deadline for prepaid electricity users to hand their contact details and prepaid meter numbers to their Finance Department. A notice from Makana was recently circulated on social media, reminding residents they needed to hand in those details by 3pm Friday 29 September. South African Airways (SAA) has announced network routes reductions to help the national carrier cut costs. Effective from 29 October, SAA will reduce daily flights to Port Elizabeth from four to two. Flights to East London will be reduced from three to two.
