Former Grocott’s Mail journalist Andile Ecalpar Nayika will launch his first solo publication during this year’s National Arts Festival. Better known on the art scene as Ecalpar, Nayika lives in Nelson Mandela Bay, but is originally from Makhanda. GBS Mutual Bank has donated R600 000 towards improvement of public education in Makhanda this year. During November 2018 the body of an African Male was found in the Kleinemond river near Port Alfred. The body was in a state of decomposition, but the male is estimated to be in his late twenties. Voter registration will take place this weekend, 22 and 23 June 2019 in Makana Municipality ahead of the Ward 12 by-election on 7 August. Makana is one of three Eastern Cape municipalities where there will be by-elections on that date. The others are Mnquma Local Municipality (Ward 21) and Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality (Ward 10). Rhodes University Archery Club Team members once again did very well at the 2019 SA National Championships held at Marks Park Sports Club in Johannesburg from 19th to 21st  of April. The championships comprised of a 1440 round, a 720 round with eliminations, as well as university, provincial and mixed team events.
