Graeme College hosted Port Rex in hockey and rugby fixtures over the past weekend, the first time full sporting fixtures have taken place between these two schools. In the hockey fixtures last Friday evening, Port Rex won the U14A game 1-0. The U16A game ended in a 1-1 draw, while Graeme 1sts won their match 3-0. Graeme 1sts started their match in an untidy fashion, and seemed to not have much of a plan with regards to pattern or plan. An unchanged St Andrew’s College 1st XV travelled to Queen’s on Saturday. After a shaky start which saw Queen’s College take an early 15-3 lead due to a number of early mistakes, St Andrew’s closed the gap with a second penalty by Murray Koster. A further penalty followed, with St Andrew’s opting to go for the lineout. After a good drive, inside centre Charlie Fleming went over for the try to narrow the gap to 15-11. Four St Andrew’s College rowers, Alex Holmes, Michael Thomas, Henry Torr and Dane van Duren  have been selected as part of the South African Junior National Squad. The team will compete at the Junior World Rowing Championships in Trakai, Lithuania from 2 to 6 August 2017. The announcement was made by the RowSA International Commission earlier this week. The four represent the Eastern Cape and were selected as a crew in the men’s coxless fours with their coach Chris Holliday, Director of Rowing at St Andrew’s who will be supported by Marco Galeone for the training process with the crew…

SA Rugby confirmed this week that the first match of the Castle Lager Rugby Championship will take place on Saturday 19 August at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth, when Argentina clash with the Boks. The following week, the Springboks will be in action in Argentina against Los Pumas (Saturday 26 August, in Salta), where after it’s the first bye weekend. The St Andrew’s U14A side played in the Independent Schools Hockey Festival hosted by York High School over Easter.
