The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) is ready to administer the National Traffic Information and Vehicle Management System (eNatis). According to Transport Minister Joe Maswanganyi, the Corporation has been ready to run the system since 2015. “We are more than ready to run eNatis. The launch of the 2017 Easter Road Safety campaign took place in Somerset West recently. The event was kicked off by Provincial Traffic Chief Kenny Africa, who said 40 fatalities per day occur nationally on South African roads. Africa spoke of the socio-economic aspects of road accidents and how families are often torn apart due to fatalities and severe injuries. He said R3 billion is lost annually due to fatalities, road repairs, medical expenses and compensation. Kingswood College took second place provincial finals of the SPAR Eastern Cape Schoolgirls Hockey Challenge in Graaff-Reinet last Friday, while hosts, Union High became the first team to qualify for the provincial finals by winning the PE North tournament. Union High were the only unbeaten team on the day and clinched their berth in the main finals to be played at Woodridge on August 12 when they beat Kingswood 1-0 in the tournament decider.
