Note that the run is a week earlier than usual, due to other motoring events happening on the last Sunday. The Mbhashe Executive Mayor recently handed over a R9 million Animal Pound at Dutywa. The facility is the result of a joint effort between the municipality’s Community Services and Technical Services directorates, with the use of Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG) funding from Cogta. In a media statement, the municipality said the state-of-the-art structure was complied with SPCA standards, comprising separate spaces for designated species including horses, sheep, goats and cows. There are sick bays and veterinary treatment areas intended for those requiring medical attention. Agri Eastern Cape welcomed the lengthy sentences handed down to Alexandria farmer Riaan Scheepers’s attackers in the High Court in Makhanda (Grahamstown) Friday 2 November, and congratulated the SAPS for their investigative work in the case. Bulelani Bafo Zozi (21) and Siphamandla Petse (24) entered Scheepers’s home on 25 November 2017 and severely assaulted him. They took a firearm and his bakkie before fleeing the scene. On 19 December, Scheepers succumbed to his injuries and passed away. SS Gida Hospital which serves several rural areas around Keiskamnahoek thanked the Cata Working on Fire team who carried out prescribed burning in their area earlier this month. The team’s Regional Manager Msindisi Poponi sad the hospital had asked for a firebreak to halt runaway fires and improve the hospital’s appearance and access.
