The SADC has called for entries to the 2018 Southern African Development Community Media Awards. The Competition was launched at the Institute for the Advancement of Journalism last Friday. The Albany Angling Association (AAA) members monthly outing was split between two dams in November; Yarrow and Settlers. Yarrow was the first dam to be fished on Saturday afternoon, with wind and pressure against the anglers, making fishing tough and the pickings miserly. The anglers were pleased to load up their boats and head off to Settlers Dam for a relaxing braai before 17 made it to the 7am competition next day. Kingswood Junior School hosted its sixth annual U13 Girls’ Water Polo Festival last weekend. The hosts fielded two teams, U13A and Wyverns, with DSG also entering a side from Grahamstown. Clarendon U13A & B, Stirling, Hudson Park U12 and U13A, as well as Stanmore from East London were some of the teams that took part. They were joined by Plett Water Polo Club from Plettenberg Bay, Collegiate U13A & B, St George’s and Manta Rays Club from Port Elizabeth. The South African National Roads Agency SOC Ltd (SANRAL) would like to notify travellers that controlled blasting is scheduled to continue on National Route 2 Section 13 between Grahamstown and the Fish River, every Tuesday up to and including Tuesday, 5 December 2017, weather permitting. The blasts will occur at various places along the N2 between Km 81 and Km 92, approximately 25 km to 30 km to the north-east of Grahamstown. A major work activity stream of the R61 mega road infrastructure project in the Eastern Cape, has been completed, the South African National Roads Agency SOC Ltd (SANRAL) announced recently. The R550-million Mthatha Sprigg Street to Ngqeleni road infrastructure development and safety programme is also part of a master plan for tourism and other long-term mega projects in the Eastern Cape. The project commenced on 16 September 2013 and was completed on 8 September 2017. Two civic groups are celebrating a court ruling that will force liquor outlets in residential areas to respect residents’ rights. The Yeoville Bellevue Ratepayers Association and the Southern African Alcohol Policy Alliance have welcomed the ruling made by Judge Elias Matojane in the Johannesburg High Court this week in favour of the Association. Represented by Maurice Smithers the Association along with another applicant, Melusi Emmanuel Ncala, challenged the validity of the Gauteng Shebeen License Regulations of 2013.
