By Aphiwe Ngowapi The Makhanda High Court this week sentenced former paramedic Nomsa Seyisi to life imprisonment for the murder of her cousin’s boyfriend and 15 years for the attempted murder of the cousin. Judge Thandi Victoria Norman ordered the two sentences to run concurrently, effectively sentencing Seyisi to life imprisonment. After a trial that lasted a little more than a week, the matter was concluded on Monday with justice for Thembinkosi Wambi and Zukiswa Frans. Lungile Mxube, Philip Machanick, Kungeka Mashiane, Jonathan Walton and Jane Bradshaw were reinstated as councillors in a special council meeting at the City Hall yesterday morning. Newly-formed Extension 6 defenders and the ever growing Extension 8 and Transit Camp Makhanda Angels, were given playing kit and equipment. Both teams were excited to receive the items and thanked the hub for assisting struggling clubs. The Joza Youth Hub is an intiative aimed at promoting sport at all levels in communities. By Luvuyo Mjekula Residents of Blackbeard Street in Scott’s Farm watched in disbelief as a fire consumed their neighbour’s double storey house on Thursday afternoon. While some watched helplessly, others ran in and out of the residence with buckets of water, helping firefighters battling the fire. It is not clear what started the blaze, but neighbours told Grocott’s Mail there was no one inside when it started. The owner of the house was spotted walking in and out of the yard, in clear distress. Grocott’s Mail has reached out to the police to establish the cause of the fire.

The Makanakop Shellhole hosted the Remembrance Day parade in Church Square in Makhanda on Sunday in collaboration with St Andrew’s College and Kingswood College, and the St Mary’s Scout Troop.
