The second round Eastern Province Rugby Union Grand Challenge Shield B encounter between the Rosebuds and St Marks took place in front of a large crowd in Alicedale on Saturday 14 July. The Awards Evening took place at the Ski-Boat & River Club in Port Alfred on Friday 25 May. The South Eastern District Sub Union (Sedru) held a successful Human Rights Day Rugby Day at the Oval last week Wednesday. The local clubs and schools in Grahamstown took part on a beautiful sunny day. The event was well attended with an estimated crowd of 2000 celebrating National Human Rights Day and supporting their respective teams. The 114th Annual Kenrich Motors Pineapple Cricket Tournament came to an epic close on Saturday, with Salem 1st and Cuylerville 2nds crowned as section winners. Salem 1st came out tops in the 1st Section, while Cuylerville 2nds won the 2nd Section. Station Hill won the Plate Section. The Annual Pineapple Cricket Tournament in Port Alfred kicked off last weekend, and will be running until next week Saturday with the finals that will take place. This year, the Kenrich Motors Pineapple Cricket Tournament consists of 30 teams, made up of at least 300 players, competing in a total of 42 matches. These matches will be played on 7 fields under the watchful eyes of 14 umpires. While they’ll be supported by an untold number of loyal spectators. The past weekend saw the end of another Grahamstown Cricket Board (GCB) league season. Southwell 1st and Station Hill 2nds were crowned the new Grahamstown Cricket Board (GCB) 1st and 2nd league Champs respectively. Southwell beat Cuylerville by 8 wickets & with a bonus point to clinch their second title of the season, along with the Bathurst 1st league they won last week. The Grahamstown Cricket Board’s (GCB) leagues are heating up towards final round of the season, with a number of teams vying for top spot in the 1st and 2nd leagues. By sharing points against St Andrews due to the rain, Southwell 1sts did enough to reach the top of the GCB Bathurst league, winning it at the same time. The annual Fabian Juries Community Fun Day, hosted by the Grahamstown Brumbies Rugby Club, is set to be even bigger and better than before. The annual event will take place on Saturday 25 November at the Oval Sports Ground. The event is named after former Springbok Sevens player Fabian Juries, who lived in the Scotchfarm area and has played for team Cellotape. The Eastern Province Rural cricket team made it three in a row with a crashing 126-run win over Border Aloes in Alice on Saturday. This was round three of the Cricket South Africa Rural South section competition. Border won the toss and sent EP in to bat.
