For the first time in 46 years, the black rhino will roam the Central African country, Chad, following the successful translocation of six black rhinos from South Africa. “I am delighted that South Africa’s conservation success is able to contribute to the return of such an iconic species to a sister country. Five male suspects were arrested on Wednesday 16 May just after midnight near the Cannonvale crossing on the N2 in possession of a freshly slaughtered cow. The SAPS offices encountered a white Opel Corsa bakkie speeding on the N2 towards Port Elizabeth. The SAPS patrol offices pulled it off and searched when they saw that it was fitted with a flashing orange light on the roof. The freshly slaughtered cow was found on the back of the bakkie. Around nine armed men escaped after a failed cash-in-transit heist near Nanaga, Kinkelbos, at 8pm on 28 May. The delivery vehicle was on its way to Port Elizabeth from Grahamstown. Police spokesperson Captain Khaya Tonjeni said two vehicles attempted to box in the vehicle as it approached Nanaga. “A silver VW Polo attempted to slow down the vehicle from the front, while a silver Nissan NP300 bakkie with about nine armed suspects opened fire on the vehicle from behind and from the side,” Tonjeni said.
