By LUTHO MAGASANA Friday 28 September 2018, the Hill Challengers took on the Platypuses in the final match of Rhodes Internal Premier League (RIPL) Cricket Tournament at the Great Field in Rhodes University. Despite the cold weather and a smaller number of supporters, the players put up a close game of cricket. The Hill Challengers lost the toss and the Platypuses elected to field. The closely fought, low scoring battle took place at the Grahamstown Oval. Thistles’ forward pack were dominant up front; they had a larger pack and made the most of this advantage. The tournament, which started on the heritage day as part of the heritage month celebrations, was designed to promote soccer in the young players around the town. Local boxing superstar, Mzoxolo “Black Tiger” Ndwayana, has once again put Grahamstown (Makhanda) on the map. Ndwayana exchaged leather with Gauteng’s Sean Ness at the Portuguese Hall, just south of Johannesburg, Gauteng, to claim the South African Welterweight title with the knockout in the eighth round. By CHANEEZ SIAS The Rhodes University Indoor Cycling Society hosted their sixth annual twelve-hour fund raising cyclathon on Saturday 15 September. The event took place at the Rhodes University Gymnasium and this year Rhodes chose the Enabled Society to be the recipients of the funds raised. A total of R25 000 was raised to donate to the society by the end of the event. The cyclathon  started at 8am and finish by 8pm and throughout the day there were a variety of different instructors to lead the hourly sessions which included water breaks and stretches. Kowie United travelled from port Alfred to face their rivals, the Old Collegians (OC) from Grahamstown on the Rhodes University Great Field.
