With the local tennis season coming to an end recently, Coombs Tennis Club enjoyed yet another successful season. The tennis courts at Coombs have been occupied and alive with the thuds and squeaks of ongoing tennis matches.
Swallows kept their top spot on the Eastern province Rugby Union Super League, Wellman Harmse log when they beat St Marks 38-10. This was the last league match of season and Swallows will now head off to the play-offs. If they win all their play-offs, Swallows will then advance in the Super League.

The recent public service strike almost brought the Grahamstown Magistrate’s Court to a standstill after workers joined the 21 day long strike. Stenographers and court interpreters participated in the strike, which meant that 560 court cases from both the district and regional courts were postponed during the strike said Koch Froneman, the checking officer of the Criminal Section at the magistrate’s court.
A local principal says a misunderstanding between his Grade 12 learners and members of South African Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu) led to the learners locking in everyone at the school. Last week Sadtu leadership released a press statement as an apology to its members for exposing them to a “hostage” situation at Nombulelo Secondary School on Tuesday.
