The South African National Roads Agency SOC Ltd (SANRAL) would like to notify travellers that controlled blasting for drainage is scheduled to continue to take place on the N2, Section 13, between Grahamstown and Fish River Pass, every Tuesday from 6 March 2018 until 27 March 2018, weather permitting. STAFF REPORTER  Mzingisi Matwa 26 and Simphiwe Gabhela Dyongwana 33 were convicted in the Bhisho High Court on Monday19 February, and sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder and Robbery of 54 year old, three years for possession of an unlicensed firearm and a year each for possession of ammunition. Court heard that the accused robbed the victim his vehicle at gunpoint on 9 April 2016, in Dhabani Location, Peddie. They shot him, and then drove over him to make certain he was dead. A man attacked by dogs in Grahamstown in the early hours of Saturday 24 February 2018 died soon after arriving at the hospital with severe wounds on his arms, legs, torso and neck, police spokesperson Captain Mali Govender said. The 32-year-old man was taken to Settlers Hospital by his uncle, Govender said. “Hospital staff attempted to resuscitate the man but in vain.” Govender said according to information received, the the victim was attacked by several dogs in Xolani location and Joza detectives were investigating a case of culpable homicide.

Missing Search and Rescue dog Olive was found by her own colleagues early this morning, after going missing after a rescue operation at at Mahlubini in Sulenkama near Mthatha around 7pm on Sunday. She disappeared when a pack of dogs chased her, leaving her handler Constable Songezile Katikati distraught and heartbroken. Katikati and Olive have worked together since 2012. The two were awarded the “Best Rescuing Dog” in the Eastern Cape in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
