Old Collegians (OC) 1st XV rugby side continued their unbeaten record in the SEDRU Regional League. They stunned the Rhodes Stallions with a 27-22 win at Great Field, Rhodes last Friday night – the last games of the first round. OC extended their lead at the top of the log standings, the only unbeaten side in the league thus far. They are now on top with 34 points, eight points clear of Lily White in second position with a game outstanding against Rhodes to complete the first round of matches. There were impressive wins last weekend in the 6th round of the EPRU SEDRU Regional League at Rhodes and the Oval. On Friday night Old Collegians continued their unbeaten run with a win over the struggling Winter Rose, while Rhodes trashed Easterns and Lily White and outgunned log leaders Klipfontein United on Saturday. Despite their defeat, Klipfontein still managed to hang on to their top position on the overall log standings. The Eastern Province Rugby Union (EPRU) Super League saw two exciting matches being played in Port Elizabeth on Saturday 4 May, with the Brumbies and Trying Stars taking on Missionvale and Windvogel respectively.  The Brumbies First team and Missionvale Firsts played to an exciting 20-20 draw in their EPRU Super League encounter. The Brumbies were in front 10-8 at halftime, but could not hold onto their narrow lead at the end of the full 80 minutes. Old Collegians First Rugby side moved to the top of the log in the South Eastern District Rugby Union (SEDRU) Regional League after narrowly defeating Klipfontein United 25-19, who was in first position heading into the weekend. The SEDRU League produced exciting games on Friday 3 May and Saturday 4 May, despite the cold weather. The Vuka/Albany High Schools League finally kicked off in Makhanda on Saturday 13 April, with rugby matches taking place at the Oval, Graeme College and Mickey Yili. OC retained their bragging rights and dominants over their arch rivals Lily White and it was again no different on Saturday 13 April. Klipfontein United, Eastern and Kowie United also recorded impressive victories over their opponents. PJ Olivier Hoërskool First Rugby side won the first of the annual home and away derbies against Port Alfred High School (PAHS) on Saturday 13 April. PJ claimed a narrow 18-17 win in their titanic battle at the PJ Olivier Sports Grounds. The much anticipated derby, as expected, was played at a high tempo; hard and very physical. A confident Brumbies outfit travelled to Port Elizabeth on Saturday 13 April to take on Suburban in their Twizza EPRU Super League encounter in Kleinskool. After a very good and pleasing first half performance, the top side in Makhanda (Grahamstown) let it slip in the second half. Salem Cricket Club’s Second team are the new Grahamstown Cricket Board’s (GCB) Second League Champions for the 2018/2019 season. They were crowned Champs despite losing to Rainbows in their last match of the season. Salem last won the GCB Second League back in 2011. Despite losing to Rainbows, the Salem side still ending on top of the GCB log and were declared as deserved winners and champs.
