The latest completion date is April 2024, after a December 2023 deadline was missed. Amatola Water has blamed the delays on the slow progress of the contractor. The contractor refused to comment. The 13 schools participating in the water polo event were St Johns and St Stithians from Gauteng, Hilton, Westville, Michaelhouse, and Clifton, all from Kwa-Zulu Natal, St Andrew’s College, Grey High, Selborne from the Eastern Cape, SACS, Bishops, Paul Roos, and Rondebosch in the Western Cape. Community members say the streetlights have not been fully functional since the early 2000s. Because of this, each night, they are vulnerable to violence, including sexual violence, murder, robbery, cable theft, house-breaking and other criminal activities.
