A proudly-Makana/Grahamstown showcase for local talent kicks off tonight (Friday 25 September) at 6pm at the Tunnels, also running through tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon and evening.

The line-up for the Makana Heritage Music Festival includes the likes of Grahamstown favourites, Words Untame and Shackles & Bones, as well as out-of-town headliners Daddy Spencer from Cape Town and Tidal Waves from Johannesburg. Proceeds from the event (entry is R50) will go to local primary school, Good Shepherd, and to Sakhultsha Soccer Development Project. Free transport, sponsored by Pronto driving school, will leave every 30 minutes from Under the Arch and Student Union – starting from 5pm on Friday and 11am on Saturday. Organisers of the event are Ancient Monarchy Productions, a Grahamstown-based music and events company. They say their aims are to "celebrate and highlight our heritage, culture and diversity through our local talent and to promote social cohesion and bring the town together". They also want to support local artists. There will be art and craft and food and drink stalls available for locals, artists and crafters to showcase their work, as well as making an economic contribution.
