Makana's buzzing boxing scene is on the up and up as a number of local boxers turned professional in Port Elizabeth on Sunday.
Bongani Mabona and Vuyani Swaartbooi (members of the Masibambane Boxing Camp, based in Extension 6 in Joza) and Sandile Khalipha (Mfuzo Boxing Camp) all turned pro last weekend.

Bongani Mabona and Vuyani Swaartbooi (members of the Masibambane Boxing Camp, based in Extension 6 in Joza) and Sandile Khalipha (Mfuzo Boxing Camp) all turned pro last weekend.
Both Mabona and Swaartbooi fought their first bouts as pro boxers on Sunday, which saw them both win. Mabona won on a knock-out while Swaartbooi won by points. They said that they're looking forward to long careers in boxing and hope to one day be champions in their divisions.
Khalipha said he's also looking forward to a long boxing career ahead of him, and, I would like to thank all those who helped me reach this point”.
Makana Amateur Boxing Organisation (Makabo) president and coach, Bulelani Ndwayana said that these three local boxers have passed the test, and now allow the local team to boast having three pro members. “The only step which is left is for them to be checked by the doctor so they can confirm that they're medically fit to compete,” said Ndwayana. Even the young upcoming boxers will look up to them.
