Over three hundred people took part in the Health Suite Charity Spinning Marathon, with three athletes completing the full 12 hours.
The annual spinning marathon took place at the Rhodes University Health Suite last Friday, starting at 8am and ending – 12 hours later – at 8pm. Devin Cripwell, Terry Marais and Ricci Pillay cycled for the full 12 hours.
Over three hundred people took part in the Health Suite Charity Spinning Marathon, with three athletes completing the full 12 hours.
The annual spinning marathon took place at the Rhodes University Health Suite last Friday, starting at 8am and ending – 12 hours later – at 8pm. Devin Cripwell, Terry Marais and Ricci Pillay cycled for the full 12 hours.
There were a total of 29 bikes which were all in use most of the 12 hours. A number of Rhodes departments, clubs and societies as well as various organisations and businesses in town hired bikes for the whole day, with different people cycling for an hour at a time and some cycling a few 1 hour sessions.
Alex Joiner, organiser of the spinning marathon, said that about R11 000 was raised from the event and the money raised will go into a charity fund and applications for charities to apply for the money which will be sent out shortly.
Joiner said the event received “superb sponsorship and support from a number of local businesses and university residences”.
Guy Butler students residence won the competition for the team that rode the furthest distance.
