With 31 sporting codes being represented at Rhodes University, the Rhodes Sports Council Aports Awards dinner takes place on Friday where the outstanding performances and top clubs will be recognised.
The most prestigious awards of the evening are the Sportswoman of the Year and Sportsman of the Year awards.

The most prestigious awards of the evening are the Sportswoman of the Year and Sportsman of the Year awards.
Other awards include Committee of the Year, Club of the Year, Performance of the Year, Administrator of the Year, Coaching Award, Inter-Res winners.
Paul Treu, Springbok Sevens coach will be the special guest. Last years Sportswoman of the Year was Marli Vlok (Rifle Club) and Sandimampita Razafimbola (Basketball Club) was Sportsman of the Year. Last years Club of the Year award went to the Athletics Club.
Nominees for the 2009 Sportswoman of the Year are: Micheen Thornycroft for rowing: (honours) Zimbabwe rowing colours, raced at U23 World Champs, selected for USSA Blues Crew (students ‘A’ national crew).
Cari-Lee Haakonsen for waterpolo: (colours) Border women’s senior team, selected for USSA waterpolo national team.
Rozan Gilbert for archery: (colours) Eastern Province colours, ranked 6th in South Africa. Thandolwethu Zono for hockey: (colours) South Africa U/19, Eastern Province U/21 A, Eastern Province senior.
Michelle Smit for rowing: (colours) selected for USSA Blues Crew (Students ‘B’ National Crew).
Alex van Besouw for rowing: (colours) selected for USSA Blues Crew (Students ‘B’ National Crew).
Nominees for the 2009 Sportsman of the Year are:
Bradly Stephenson for skiing: (honours) South African Freestyle Champion, South African World Cup Team to Paris, France, selected for SA Olympics Team to Vancouver, Canada in 2011
Adam Ludford for mountain: (colours) achieved over 8 000 points on the 8a.nu system international grading.
David Krige for waterpolo: (colours) Border men senior USSA Aquatics National PoloTeam.
Aaron Simmons for surfing: (colours) Eastern Province senior 4th at Long Board National Champs.
Carl de Beer for rowing: (colours) selected for USSA Blues Crew (Students ‘B’ National Crew)
Walter Tayali for basketball: (colours) Eastern Cape Senior.
Andrew Roberts for hockey: (colours) Eastern Province Senior, Eastern Province U21 coach, SA U18 High Performance coach.
