The Makana Local Football Association (LFA) teams have been given a final chance to get their teams in order for the 2009/2010 fixtures.
The past weekend saw a number of round robin matches being played in the Makana Municipality/Department of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture soccer tournament, which takes place at JD Dlepu Stadium.

Chris Totobela, vice president of the LFA said this tournament is a chance for teams to “get in shape and ready for the league”.
Another pre-season tournament, the A Makana LFA Friendly was held at the JD Dlepu Stadium recently, with the round robin, semi finals and finals taking place over a weekend.
Makana Pillars went on to win the LFA friendly tournament when they beat Italy 2-0. All matches were played on the JD Dlepu B field, while the A field is under repairs and will hopefully be ready for the upcoming season.
The two fields at JD Dlepu Stadium are often in bad condition, being waterlogged in places are some rainfall.
It seems the fields will not have much time to recover as the Makana LFA, which is already running late, may see teams playing up to four times a week.
This will also put pressure on smaller teams and may see an influx in injuries.A number of provincial tournaments, scheduled to be played at JD Dlepu Stadium have been called off and ended up being played on other fields due to the bad state of the fields.
Makana Municipality has received money from the Lottery Fund for a new soccer stadium, but it is said that the money is not enough to complete a full stadium.
With Makana being a public viewing area during the 2010 World Cup, it is hoped that the soccer fields are sorted out before then, as a number of opertunities, including provincial games, may once again be given to Makana.
