The New Indoor Sports Centre will play host to the third annual Makana Aerobics Marathon on Saturday 16 June. The event, which is hosted by the Makana Aerobics and Fitness Club, will welcome people from all walks of life into the Joza Township from 8am until 5pm. There are several categories for people to take part in during the day, including Hilo, Cater Box, Step Aerobics, and Functional and Team Challenges. Rhodes University Community Engagement (RUCE) recently hosted participants in the Inkululeko programme at Eden Grove for a day of leadership and entrepreneurship training. Grahamstown’s Jason Meaton took home first place in the Zambian Mine2Mine Road Race on Sunday 20 May. Meaton defended his title over the daunting 140km race from Kansanshi Mine to Kalumbila Mine. Meaton won the shorter version of the race last year when it was 120km in length. He managed to finish the new, extended route in a time of 3:34:03, beating Michael Olokani and Ray Keane in a sprint to the finish. The SuperSport walkout incident on Saturday 19 May, involving former Springbok legends and current SuperSport analysts Ashwin Willemse, Naas Botha and Nick Mallett, is yet to be resolved. On Monday 21 May, an investigation was begun by SuperSport, with the purpose of resolving the grievances brought up on air by Willemse as part of his walkout. Grahamstown’s local karateka, Lutho Singata, is looking for sponsors to help him get to Scotland for the 2018 World Union of Karate Federations (WUKF) World Championship, where would be part of the South African Shotokan Karate Academy (SASKA) National Team. The Makana Bodybuilding Goldrush Classic will take place on Sunday 27 May, at Recreation Hall in Grahamstown.
