Grahamstown’s local karateka, Lutho Singata, is looking for sponsors to help him get to Scotland for the 2018 World Union of Karate Federations (WUKF) World Championship, where would be part of the South African Shotokan Karate Academy (SASKA) National Team. Singata, who was selected for the team earlier this year, is looking to get enough funds to travel with the team, which comprises several other Grahamstown-based karate students.

The championships will held in Dundee, Scotland, from 14 to 17 July. The SA team members include Singata (Rhodes University Shotokan Karate Club), Kayle Olivier (Victoria Girls High School), Thembi Kuhlane (Victoria Girls’ High School), Luke Claassens (Kingswood), as well as Ali-Ahmed Syed Cassim and Thezeeb Syed Cassim (all East Cape Shotokan-Ryu Grahamstown and Port Alfred).

The local Spur has got on board with Singata and will host a fundraising evening on Tuesday 5 June during which R50 will be donated for every meal ordered from 5pm. For bookings for this fundraising evening, call: 046 622 2629.
