The Graeme College cricket team made history over the weekend of 17-18 November, by winning the Shaw/ Brown T20 Trophy for the first time. With the three Makhanda (Grahamstown) teams having strong line-ups, and their superb performance in the national CSA T20 tournament in which they made it to the finals, Graeme ended off their successful year with a very impressive title victory. Graeme had to beat Kingswood to give themselves a chance of winning the trophy, after their tied match against St Andrew’s College the night before. On Tuesday 30 October at approximately 7pm I was driving up Albany Road, passing Cassels Funeral home on the corner of Thumbler Street. I saw a sparking electrical cable falling from the street lines right in front of my car and the wind blew it underneath the car. I immediately stopped the car and got out to see if it was safe to drive further. Terrified, I saw the cable hooked on to my car. Being the only person in the street, dark as it was, you can imagine my emotional condition at that point. Luckily I saw an oncoming…

We are once again approaching puppy and kitten season and the festive season of giving will shortly be upon us. Animals should not be given as presents: they are a huge commitment for any person and or family and it is vitally important that anyone taking any animal on understands this. The financial burden alone is one which should always be considered, as this includes not only food and water, but also paying for annual vet visits, vaccinations and or other unforeseen private veterinary costs. This is in addition to the time, love and care any animal needs, which will…

Dylan Wilson made a mature 44 off 56 balls to ensure St Andrew’s posted a 188 run total that the bowlers could work with.…

To the Grahamstown community, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks for the love and compassion that has been shared with our family since the passing of our dear wife and mother, Lindsay Ann Abrahams on 14 October 2018.  When we first moved to Grahamstown in 1992 from Cape Town to a small dorpie in the middle of the Eastern Cape – where we didn’t really know anyone – Mom wasn’t sure how our family would be received. 26 years later, we can safely say, our family has been loved and cared for in Grahamstown. Our mother would be…

This year has seen South Africa striving and scrambling to emerge from the dark years of the Zuma presidency. Economic growth has ground to a halt, unemployment continues to rise and increasing numbers of families are falling into severe poverty. As Jesus proclaimed the coming of his redemptive Kingdom he warned his followers that there would be many destructive counterfeits. They would be particularly dangerous because of their sheep’s clothing camouflage. Skilled in pretending to be Christian, they would be well versed in faith terminology and masters of manipulation. A Trojan horse if you will, that will penetrate the ranks and devour from within. How do we protect ourselves from these kind of predators who pretend to be pastors and prey on the vulnerable? First of all to overcome an enemy you have to spot them. By their fruit Jesus…
