On Wednesday 5 December, Raphael Centre held an Asset Based Community driven Development (ABCD) mini festival at Noluthando Hall. The purpose of the event was to uplift the skills of Makhanda residents and it was directed by Nomaxabiso Fani. ABCD is a project that the centre runs throughout the year, helping with training for certain skills. Among the speakers was Bernie Dolly from Ikhala Trust, an organisation from Nelson Mandela Bay, supporting community led initiatives in the Eastern Cape by building relationships, enhancing capacity and facilitating access to funds. The annual DSG vs Kingswood derby took place in Grahamstown this past week, with squash, debating, netball and hockey teams from both schools taking part in competitive contests. It wasn’t all competition however and a shared music concert between the two schools and St Andrew’s College was also on the cards and it was definitely one of the many highlights of the week. Kingswood are also celebrating their 125 anniversary and they pulled out all the stops, putting on an absolutely brilliant week of celebration, which will be remembered for a while to come. On Friday 15 March, a service provider and event organiser Siyabulela Madyo and DSRAC led by Senior Manager Vuyiseka Nokhenke, donated 51 shoes to underprivileged children of Klipfontein in Ndlambe Municipality. South Africa has put its signature on the international treaty establishing the Square Kilometre Array Observatory (SKAO) as an intergovernmental organisation tasked with building and operating the world’s most powerful radio astronomy telescope.
