THE Grahamstown police station has announced that 100 of its members will be attending National Police Day in Bloemfontein today.
Police spokesperson captain Milanda Coetzer said the members comprise permanent police officers, clerical staff as well as volunteers, known in police circles as reservists.

The four clusters – Port Alfred, Grahamstown and Peddie – have identified 378 personnel who will be attending the event.
“Operations have been planned for the forthcoming weekend prior to the SAPS Day planned celebrations and these will continue as planned,” Coetzee explained. “The SAPS will remain vigilant and on duty during the period while their colleagues are in Bloemfontein.”
Director Vakala Moyake, Grahamstown Cluster Commander, once again expressed his commitment to the people of the Grahamstown cluster that they will receive the same quality of policing they have always received.
“Our main priority is the safety and security of the whole community and we will never waver in this task,” he said.
This week the national police department announced that it would transport and cater for over 50000 policemen and women to celebrate the festivities at the Bloemfontein soccer stadium where they will be “recognised to boost their morale”.
About 6 500 Eastern Cape police officers are expected to rub shoulders with national police commissioner Bheki Cele and police minister Nathi Mthethwa at the function. The department is keeping mum about the cost of this celebration which has drawn some criticism from other sections of the nation.
