    The Bruintjieshoogte Cycle Fest took place in Somerset East over the past weekend, with a number of mountain and road bike events being organised.

    The Bruintjieshoogte Cycle Fest took place in Somerset East over the past weekend, with a number of mountain and road bike events being organised.

    A number of locals took part in the various races. Johan Conradie and Dave Hanton, who completed the Spec-Savers Ironman 70.3 South Africa a week earlier, took part in the 160km road race. They finished
    together in 5 hours 24 minutes 39 seconds.

    In the 25km mountain bike event, Graeme College pupil, Jason Meaton, was the overall winner in a time of 54:45. Grahamstown cyclists’ results:
    25km mountain bike
    1. Jason Meaton 54:45, 41. Neil Grobler 1:44:20. The women’s
    winner was Michelle Reid in 1:09:49. There were 48 finishers.
    60km mountain bike
    16. Peter Britz 3:21:51, 19. Colin Meyer 3:26:58. Overall winner
    was Jason Reed in 2:26:01 and women’s winner was Gail Willimott
    in 3:03:33. There were 71 finishers.
    160km road race
    11. Johan Conradie 5:24:39, 11. Dave Hanton 5:24:39. Overall
    winner was Divan Rall in 4:34:27. There were 24 finishers.
    100km road
    33. Colin Meyer 3:20:02, 64. Trevor Amos 3:47:52, 83. Karen
    Meyer 4:14:49, 97. Len van der Merwe 5:05:29. Overall winner
    was Francois Geldenhuys in 2:44:21 and women’s winner was
    Allison Hertel in 2:55:52. There were 99 finishers.
    50km road
    37. Andre Wille 2:12:21, 38. Taryn-Maie Wille 2:12:21, 73. Neil
    Grobler 2:47:37, 82. Nicole Craig 3:41:52. Overall winner was
    Kellan Gouveris in 1:31:29 and woman’s winner was Monique
    Gerber in 1:39:13. There were 82 finishers.
    ROAD RUNNING
    The second Run/Walk For Life Athletics Club time trial saw
    38 athletes taking part in the 4km run. A number of Graeme
    College rugby players took part, as well as pupils from the St
    Andrew’s cross country team and athletes from Run/Walk For
    Life and other running clubs. The time trial takes place every
    Thursday at 5.30pm from the Graeme College Junior Fields in
    Bath Street.
