“There are spirits among us, how fun would it be to play with them?”
This expression would chill anyone to their core – a playful experience with the dead is considered impossible by many, except Li Lau.
Liau is a world-renowned South African master performer, who debuts his performance, Paranormal Activity, at this year’s Festival.
Lau introduces the audience to witch boards, psychic connections, and fortune cards. To dabble in communication with the ethereal may raise one’s scepticism, or command the opposite by enticing the mind. In this case, there is scepticism within the audience, yet they remain interested and engaged.
Audience engagement is a highlight of the show, as most of these acts are completed with the assistance of the auditorium. Lau also does well to incorporate humour. He varies from dark comedy to set the scene, then moves on to a lighter mood to settle the audience’s unease.
As spirits are high for this award-winning performer who will perform until the final morning of Fest. A ticket to Paranormal Activity may not be a bad way to tackle the end-of-Fest blues.
Paranormal Activity is on at the Rehearsal Room until 2 July.
