The Department of Labour will embark on another series of roadshows around the National Minimum Wage, this time focusing on the Bill Exemption process with employers across the country.

The bill to pave way for the NMW, has been published for public representations.

The briefing sessions will commence in Johannesburg on 19 March before moving to Pretoria and then across the country. In the Eastern Cape, the road show will reach East London on 9 April and Port Elizabeth on 10 April.

Under the new law, employers will have to pay workers  at least R20 an hour with the exception of sectors such as farm/forestry, domestic and Expanded Public Works, that received a longer transition period to pay R18, R15 and R11 per hour respectively. The NMW is set for implementation from 1 May 2018.
