Humanitarian and activist Graça Machel will give the keynote address at the third Archbishop Thabo Makgoba Development Trust Annual Lecture, titled: ‘Values Based Leadership’, hosted by the Rhodes Business School tomorrow, Thursday 5 October at 6.30pm in the Barratt 1 Lecture Theatre.

Machel, a former South African First Lady and current Chancellor of the University of Cape Town, is a South African based humanitarian and activist who over the years has gained international recognition for leadership in projects focusing on ending hunger in Africa, as well as the welfare of refugee children.

She has received the Inter Press Service’s (IPS) International Achievement Award for her work on behalf of children internationally and the Africare Distinguished Humanitarian Service Award.

The Archbishop Thabo Makgoba Development Trust (ATMDT) seeks to address social economic challenges such as poverty, inequality and unemployment in Southern Africa, through the provision of educational opportunities, skills and entrepreneurial development, and the promotion of health awareness.

Former President Kgalema Motlanthe presented the 2016 Lecture.
