Grahamstown detectives this week arrested a man who has been on the run since 1 December and charged him with attempted murder.

The 32-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday 11 January after he failed to appear in court.

Spokesperson for the South African Police Service Captain Mali Govender said the man had failed to appear in court on his attempted murder charge.

Information was also received that he had been intimidating witnesses," Govender said.

"He will appear in the Grahamstown Magistrate's court on Friday facing charges of attempted murder, contempt of court and intimidation.

SAPS Grahamstown Cluster Commander Brigadier David Kanuka commended the team for their diligence and perseverance, Govender said.

Another man police have been after for a while was arrested in Grahamstown for possession of stolen property on Wednesday 11 January.

The man, in his 40s, was arrested during an early morning police operation.

Govender said police had been looking for the man in connection with several other cases.

"He has been linked to several cases of theft out of motor vehicles specialising in car batteries. The suspect will appear in the Grahamstown Magistrates court on Friday," said Govender.
