Three BUCO Eastern Areas teams travelled up to King William’s Town this past weekend to participate in the annual Inter Sub-District Bowling Tournament.

Representing Grahamstown were Stan Long, Peter Heynes, Mario Agnew, Bresby du Preez and Clive Bartlett who are all members of the Albany Bowling Club.

Each team played a total of six games over the four days on what Brian Aldag of the Kenton-on-Sea bowling club described as "very fast and tricky greens".

Trevor Frost’s team of himself, Noel Heale, Peter Heynes and Mario Agnew coped best with the conditions and played six games, won three, peeled one and lost two.

This placed them in sixth place in the individual team standings out of the 18 teams taking part.

After a slow start Stan Long’s team of himself, Rob Owsley, Jaques Krige and Brian Aldag, who had lost their first three games, bounced back to win their next three games in a row, to move up into seventh place in the standings.

Clive Bartlett’s team of himself, Bresby du Preez, Stephen Minaar and Phil Taylor won two games, peeled one and lost three, to end up in 12th place.

In the overall standings the BUCO Eastern Areas teams, after a poor start, climbed steadily up the team rankings and eventually finished in third place just behind Midlands and comfortable overall winners East London and Districts.

In the individual teams competition Mark Hensberg’s team from East London won easily by winning all six of their games.
