The Eastern Province Kings are cautiously optimistic going into this weekend’s Currie Cup clash against the DHL Western Province on Saturday.
After their dramatic 19-14 win over the Vodacom Blue Bulls last week, the Kings have been forced to make a number of changes to their starting XV for this weekend’s cape derby.
In the second row, Tazz Fuzani returns from injury to come in at lock in place of Cornell Hess, who has been called up to the Southern Kings side. Fuzani is partnered with Philip du Preez, who replaces of Sintu Manjezi.
Manjezi has been moved back to his preferred position of flank, replacing SF Nieuwoudt, who has been dropped from the side completely. Stephan Zaayman joins Manjezi at flank in place of JP Jonck, who has also been called up to the Southern Kings.
In the backline, Franswa Ueckermann, who suffered a concussion against the Bulls last weekend, has been replaced by Sibusiso Ngcokovane at scrumhalf.
Andile Jho comes in at inside centre to replace Jeremy Ward, who has been called up to captain the Springbok U20 side. He is joined by Somila Jho at outside centre, who replaces JP du Plessis after he too has been called up to the Super Rugby squad.
The Kings will be led out by St Andrews old boy, Sintu Manjezi, who captains the side. He will be followed by fellow ex-Grahamstonian and Kingswood old boy, Somila Jho, who will run out as vice-captain.
The Kings will be wary of a wounded Western Province side that lost to the Cell C Sharks XV last week.
The match kicks off at Newlands Stadium in Cape Town at 4pm on Saturday (14 May) afternoon.
