The Southern Kings suffered another loss as the Emirates Lions scored seven tries to win the Super Rugby encounter 45-10 at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday (23 April) evening.

The Lions dominated from the get go but struggled to finish in the early stages as they had two disallowed tries in the first minutes.

Their patience eventually paid off as captain Warren Whitely found himself down the wing and powered through two defenders to dot down under the poles.

Grahamstown born Luzuko Vulindlu opened the scoring for the Kings as he went into the corner but Fouche missed the penalty.

The Lions hit back almost immediately as Courtnall Skosan dove into the corner with Jantjies having no problems with the conversation.

The Lions then scored their third try as Armand van der Merwe went over after a driving maul with the Kings defending with 14 men after Thembelani Bholi was yellow carded for a deliberate infringement.

The Southern Kings went into half time 21-5 after Ruan Combrinck was pulled out of play to end a good move by the visitors.

The Lions picked up where they left off after Ruan Combrinck converted a great run and dove into the corner just two minutes into the half, Jantjies again converting it successfully.

Just two minutes later Armand van der Merwe muscled over to score off a maul with Jantjies missing his first conversion.

Chris Cloete clawed one back for the Kings but the Lions hit back immediately through Ruan Combrinck as the wing scored his second try to dash any hopes of a comeback.

Replacement centre Rohan Janse van Rensburg scored the last try of the match when he went over as the match ended 45-10 to the Lions.

The Southern Kings had little possession and struggled to keep up with the fast open game plan of the Lions which ultimately led to their downfall.
