The Eastern Province Kings lost to Border Bulldogs 14-28 in round three of the 2016 edition of the Currie Cup, on Saturday 23 April. The match was a curtain-raiser game to the Super Rugby match between the Southern Kings and the Lions.

After a period of seven minutes camping on Border’s five metre line, Simon Bolze crossed the line for the Kings, in the 28th minute of the game, after receiving the ball off a scrum. Bolze converted his own try, pushing the Kings 7-0 up over the Bulldogs; a lead which they held through to halftime.

The Bulldogs entered the score sheet early in the second half, as a brilliant run put Michael Makase in the corner in the 47th minute. Oliver Zono converted, leveling the score at 7-7.

Replacement for the Bulldogs, Hendri Storm, smashed over the try-line in the 61st minute. The try was converted by Oliver Zono, and the Bulldogs took the lead for the first time in the match.

The Bulldogs pushed further ahead in the 72nd minute, as Siyamthanda Ngande crossd the line from a maul. Oliver Zono slotted the conversion, pushing the lead to 7-21.

A lineout on the King’s five metre line in the 77th minute led to Border mauling obver the line for a try for Ludwe Booi.

The King’s Courtney Winnaar crossed over the line in the corner after the hooter to have the final say in the match. Winnaar slotted the conversion, making the final score the EP Kings 14-28 Border Bulldogs.
