Employees of Van Schaik book store hosted Grade 6 pupils from Ntaba Maria Primary School on Friday, 22 April to celebrate World Book Day, which is commemorated on 23 April annually.

The store was closed from 9am until 10.15 on Friday as activities continued inside.

The pupils were encouraged to read books. Many of the Ntaba Maria pupils attending the event were currently reading books, and named some of them when asked to.

Van Schaik employee Lifa Mnonopi said they try their best to support schools to try and get people to enjoy reading.

“We want you to get into the habit of reading so you can expand your knowledge,” he said.

Store manager Susan van Eck said they have books that help school teachers and they also stock books for tertiary institutions.

The pupils did a variety of activities during their time at the store.
