Roadworks will continue tonight at Port Elizabeth, the SA National Roads Agency (Sanral) has advised motorists.

“Motorists must be observant of all lane closures and warning signs, and exercise extreme caution when travelling through the construction work zones,” said Mbulelo Peterson, Sanral Southern Region regional manager.

He added that Sanral apologised for the inconvenience caused.

There will be complete ramp closures on the John Tallant interchange tonight from 7pm until tomorrow at 5am.

There will also be a ramp closure on the Settlers interchange west bound off-ramp towards Summerstrand (M4), on three consecutive nights, tonight, tomorrow and Wednesday.

Over the three nights roadworks will start at 7pm and continue until 5am the next day. The roadworks will go ahead, weather permitting.

“There will always be an access route and exit route via the ramps of the intersection. The traffic however will have to use a detour via these intersections. All ramps will not be closed at once,” said Peterson.

There will be digital signs to caution motorists of ongoing roadworks taking place at night.

“Motorists must be observant of all lane closures and warning signs, and exercise extreme caution when travelling through the construction work zones,” added Peterson.

Commuters travelling in the N2 road between Grahamstown and Peddie are advised to use other alternative routes like the R67 between Fort Beaufort and Grahamstown or the R72 between King William's Town and Port Alfred.

The N2 road between Grahamstown and Peddie will be closed from noon to 6pm today for construction work.
