On Saturday 9 April, Sihlesam Maholwana hosted a poetry session titled ‘Letters to my mother and you’ in collaboration with Imin’esisdenge and Nombasa, supported by Creative City and Fingo Festival.

The event was held at River of Life Church in Hill Street.

‘Letters to my mother and you’ is a poetry show with a touch of theatre, based on poetry that Maholwana wrote around the relationship she had with her mother from teenage years right up to her mother dying, highlighting both the negative and positive impact that it had on her and how they both overcame those hard times.

The message was delivered not only poetically but also visually as there were photographs around the room as well as a video that was playing in a corner and all of this was accompanied by the beautiful sound of Xhosa music in the background.

As always Nombasa captured the audience with her beautiful music and Imini'esisdenge had everyone laughing and entertained with their excellent play on words.

The show as a whole left everyone who came touched in different ways. Some felt healed in their souls and some were just simply amazed.
