Every day this week, you can find out all you wanted to know (and things you didn't know you wanted to know) about the Albany History Museum.
Each morning at 9.30, there'll be a talk on the history of the Department in the Bowker Library followed by a short guided tour of one of the collections.
Yesterday, it was 'The Costumes' – military uniforms, victorian costume and dresses, infants and childrens clothes, accessories, hats, footware; today, 'The Photographs' – daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, negatives and positive photographs of local people, places and interesting events; tomorrow (Wednesday) it's 'The Paintings' including works by Thomas Baines, Frederick I’Ons, Mary Elizabeth Barber and other artists; Thursday you can rifle through 'The Documents – personal diaries, letters, deeds and family papers and on Friday, it's the chance of 'The Weird and Wonderful' which the museum describes as "interesting and seemingly out-of-place objects found in our collections from all over the world include Indian paintings, Chinese textiles and Roman shields".
A glimpse behind the historical scenes at artefacts you might not even know have found their home in Grahamstown – not to be missed.
