Grocott's Mail visited the homes on Monday morning and saw the damage to the homes.
Extension 6 resident Boniswa Tana whose house was affected said everything was in disarray inside the house. She said she was in town with her husband when the roof was blown away by the wind.
"We received a call from our neighbours reporting the matter.
"Immediately we came back and we couldn't believe to see the house like this.
"I don't know even where to start in a mess like this. We are going to town now to try and get material to fix the house.
"I'm ill now because all night I was trying to clean the house in that cold weather," said Tana.
In Extension 5 a wall of Miya Store was blown down by the strong winds.
Family member Lumka Qangule said they were forced to completely remove the wall and rebuild afresh.
"I would like to thank people of this community for making sure that no item was stolen here," Qangule said. "It was a big risk because the wall was down and people could easily come and steal.
"I didn't go to work today because of this," said Qangule.
In Tantyi location there were several houses left without roofs. People were busy cleaning up and trying to do repairs.
Kholeka Jaha said she had slept at her neighbour's house last night.
"The roof was totally blown away and there was no way that I could have slept here," Jaha said.
"Today I will go and sleep next door because the beds are all wet." Nomvuyo Koliti from M Street said she was still unsure of what to do.
"I'm lost. I don't know where to start," she said.
"Everything is wet here and on the other side my husband is sick in hospital. She said the Makana Municipality Disaster Management unit had come.
Municipal spokesperson Yoliswa Ramokolo had not replied to questions by the time of publishing.
