Makana mayor Nomhle Gaga congratulated 375 Eastern Cape SAFA Development graduates at the SAFA ceremony held at the 1820 Settlers Monument on Saturday.

Makana mayor Nomhle Gaga congratulated 375 Eastern Cape SAFA Development graduates at the SAFA ceremony held at the 1820 Settlers Monument on Saturday.

Gaga said the municipality will do all in its power to make sure football grows in the Makana region. During her speech Gaga also acknowledged the role played by Rhodes University in support of local football.

She promised to support local football and said football is a tool that can change the lives of many children. The graduation ceremony supported by PPC cement is SAFA's development plan which forms part of the 2022 vision.

Of the 375 Eastern Cape graduates who received certificates in coaching, administration and refereeing, six are from Grahamstown. Two of the six Grahamstonians where two females who received their coaching D licences.

Both female coaches, Nosiphosethu Dingiswayo and Sbusiso Mantawule, said they would love to make a massive contribution to female football in the Makana region.

Dingiswayo said her dream is to see Makana schools offer female soccer to their pupils to increase the level of competition in the region which currently has only one women’s soccer team.
