About 317 bunches of young Khat plants were found in a bus by the Grahamstown SAPS Highway Patrol members on Friday 4 September.

Sergeant Sipho Gwente and Constable Khuselo Makeba were the two police officers who discovered the plants. "The police stopped the national bus liner during a routine vehicle check.

They checked the luggage in the vehicle and found two bags with 317 bunches of young Khat plants in bags.

"The bags could unfortunately not be linked to any of the passengers on the bus.

The Khat was seized and booked into Grahamstown SAPS 13," said Crime Intelligence Office Milanda Coetzer.
