The Nathaniel Nyaluza Nyasas and Mary Waters Mawas are expected to dominate this year’s competition and neither disappointed in their first matches.
Nyasas fought off a strong resistance by Nombulelo to run away with a 13-0 victory before Mawas swept past Kutliso Daniels with a 31-12 score line.
Competition organiser, Phumzile Adam, says this year’s competition is going to be even bigger than last year.
In 2014 it was open only to under 15 sides, but its success has meant expansion this year to include both primary schools and high school first teams – so giving the rivals the opportunity to meet again.
The final match of the programme, which will take place towards the end of the year, is very likely to feature both sides and Nyasas will have a score to settle.
The two schools contested last year’s final in the under 15 age group with Mawas edging out Nyasas 12-10.
