It may be too early to say, but judging by last week's showing in the Safa South African Breweries (SAB) league encounter against the visiting Golden Chiefs, the wheels may be starting to fall off in 11 Attackers' pursuit of league glory.

Hard done by their inability to clear their line, and shaky defending, the side which looked like real league contenders at the beginning of the season went down 3-2 in a thrilling encounter at JD Dlepu stadium.

Goals from Lifalethu Ralo and Odwa Yekani were not enough for Attackers to stop the Chiefs, who were clinical in keeping the ball possession in the second half.

Attackers may feel hard done by in losing their home encounter, having taken a 2-1 lead with about 10 minutes of play left.

But waves of attack from the visitors resulting in two quick goals, both which could have been defended with ease, meant Attackers failed to claim the top spot.

Maru also lost away to United XI .

Maru remain top of the standing with 14 points after seven rounds thus far.

However it was not all doom and gloom for Grahamstown teams in the SAB, as City Pirates joined the race for top honours with a 4-0 demolition of Friendly City.

A brace from Nkosinathi Mpumlo and two further goals from Mandilakhe Ntsendwana and Siyanda Dyan ensured Pirates comfortably sealed their three points at home.

Pirates, who started off slowly, have seemingly picked up the pace this year, collecting seven points out of a possible nine.

Pirates coach Luntu Jela was satisfied with his team's performance and said it was important they attack right from the start.

"We were starting slow in our previous matches so we wanted to have a good start so that we finish the game strong," said Jela.

The side has also roped in Siyabonga Masinda, from development side Sakhulutsha Youth Academy, to steer them to glory this season.
