The Makana Local Football Association (LFA) is back in full swing this weekend, with a full round of fixtures in two venues, JD Dlepu and Rhodes.

There’s not much to talk about at the top of the table, as no team has managed to up the pace and open a gap between them and the chasing pack.

The two top teams, Jacaranda Aces and Shining Stars, are currently tied on 11 points – although the latter is a game shorter than the Aces. Only one point separates the top five teams.

Although there hasn’t been a stand-out performer in the log so far, the team that has looked the most frightening is Rhodes University, who are yet to taste defeat in their four matches thus far.

They have won three and drawn one of their matches.

Their form in their own back yard is where they have shown most of their ability as league contenders.

In their quest to top the league this Saturday, they are up against the Newtown City side – yet to win after the three games they played this season.

They currently sit in the relegation zone, with only a point in the bag.

On Sunday, in a game which has all the signs as a dull affair, it’s a bottom of the table clash with two win-less sides in Italy and Green Leaves.

Both teams have taken the burden of being whipping boys.

Neither has won any games in the five they have played respectively.

Italy have a single point, having lost four and drawn one game.

They currently sit at 14 on the log.

Green Leaves, on the other hand, have conceded an enormous 25 goals in their five matches, while scoring only twice.

They have lost five of their matches this season.
