Kingswood College recently hosted its second mini-cricket festival of the year for U9s.

Kingswood entered four teams, Oatlands Primary fielded three sides, and St Andrew’s Prep and Yellowwoods Prep from Adelaide each entered two teams.

Pieter Serfontein, head of sport at Kingswood, said the aim of the festival "was to provide a fun afternoon of cricket where each player was assured of a chance to bat, bowl, wicket-keep and field".

The format consisted of eight-a-side teams playing two rounds during the afternoon. In each round, all batsmen faced six balls each, regardless of wickets taken.

"Much fun was had by all and the afternoon was concluded with juice and a doughnut each for the enthusiastic young cricketers," said Serfontein.

For some, the hats were too big, and socks too long, but they emulated their cricket heroes with stylish bowling actions, loud appeals and great celebrations when a wicket was taken.
