This was the 11th edition of the annual event organised by Makana tourism.
It is based on the concept of the game show, the Amazing Race. Contestants had to figure out clues about Grahamstown landmarks and history.
Once they'd figured out the clue, they would continue to the next destination. Contestants could work in groups or individually.
When they returned to the Makana Tourism offices, they put together their clues to create a map of the places they’d been to, organiser Edward Hazel said. T
he race started at 10am and an hour later the first contestants were already coming through.
First to arrive were the walkers/runners who had a short route. The winners for the walking contestants won R500 and some vouchers.
A group of four proved the benefits of teamwork by coming in 1st place.
Khonzi Somandi, Lutho Jolobe, Amy-Rue von Wildemann and Meghan von Wildemann shared their winnings.
Ruth Woudstra won the cycling race and took the entire R1 000 plus the vouchers.
Despite the cold, contestants said they'd had a lot of fun, learnt a lot and would do it again – even if it was raining.
