The annual South African Shotokan Karate Academy (SASKA) regional Dan Gradings and Sea Gashuku will be hosted at the Fish River Sun and Country Club Resort this weekend.

Karate master, Shihan Koos Burger will lead the event, which takes place tomorrow and Sunday, 13-14 September. Burger holds an eighth-level Dan in Shotokan Karate and is the style-head of SASKA and a member of the international Shotokan-Ryu Karate-Do Shihankai (ISKA).

He also serves as the first Vice President of the World Union of Karate-do Federations (WUKF).

The public is invited to watch on Sunday when Karateka from across the Eastern Cape take part in the SASKA Sea Gashuku – outdoor training on the beach at the Fish River Sun.

Saturday’s Dan grading is closed to the public and will see karateka from Port Alfred, Grahamstown, Fort Beaufort and King William’s Town attempting to qualify for various brown and black belt grades.

The Fish River Sun is a very special venue for Burger, as it was there that he celebrated his 70th birthday and 50th year of practising karate, in conjunction with the 2013 SASKA National Championships and the WUKF Africa Invitational.
