Ten Grahamstown Brumbies rugby club players have been selected to represent the Eastern Province Country Districts rugby team at the South African Rugby Union tournament in Kimberley from 15 to 19 September.

Ten Grahamstown Brumbies rugby club players have been selected to represent the Eastern Province Country Districts rugby team at the South African Rugby Union tournament in Kimberley from 15 to 19 September.

The players are:

1. Deon Crous (front ranker): Consistent performer during the season, Crous is good with ball in hand, powerful in the scrums and solid in defence. He was part of the EP team for the past two seasons and represented EP Mighty Elephants “A” Sevens Team.

2. Leclue Smith (hooker): Solid season, dangerous on attack with solid defence and in the scrum. He was part of the EP team last year and also represented Sedru, where he was named Best Forward Player.

3. Dewald De Vos (front ranker): Young and powerful scrummer who has shown a lot of promise. Alongside Smith and Crous they made a presence in the scrums with their dominance.

4. Monray Evans (lock): Senior member of the club with vast experience and class. He is one of the best line-out jumpers in the league. He has captained the EP side for the past three seasons and was part of the EP Kings Vodacom Cup training squad this season.

5. Allen Loutz (lock/loose forward): Fine all round player, he is mobile around the park.

6. Jason Potgieter (loose forward): He enjoyed a great season. Jason has been part of the EP side for the past two seasons.

7. Angelo Frazer (scrum half): Young, exciting and promising player who is currently attending Graeme College.

8. Vince Mains (fly half): Senior and most experienced player in the back line for Brumbies. A solid all-round player both on attack and defence. He has been part of the EP side in the past and also part of the EP Kings Vodacom Cup training squad this season.

9. Sheldon Nelson (centre/utility back): Enjoyed a fine season through all the injuries, but still performed well. He was a member of the EP team last season.

10. Duane Brown (full back/utility back): One of the stand-out players in the Brumbies side this season. Brown was a member of the EP team last year and also represented Sedru and attended the EP Academy in PE.

Coach: Maasdorp Cannon, also from Brumbies: An IRB Accredited Level 3, IRB instructor, Boksmart instructor. Cannon has been coach of the EP side for the past four years.

The team’s technical advisor is Mazwi Dingana, EP Rugby development officer.
