The Joza boxer stopped Sibeko in the seventh round after previously making him kiss the canvas in the first and the fifth rounds.
Speaking to Grocott’s Mail, the champion said he went to the fight expecting a tough contest from his opponent. As Sibeko proved to be a difficult opponent, he wanted to finish him off earlier.
“He is a tough fighter. Though he didn’t give me any troubles he just refused to go down from my punches”, said Ndwayana.
The champ's trainer, Bulelani Ndayana says now it’s time for the current SA welterweight champion, Tsiko Mulovhedzi, to stop ducking and diving and give them the title shot they deserve. Although he refused to reveal any details, it is rumoured that a deal could be struck with the champ’s camp in no later than this month.
“There has been no contract so we can’t say anything unless we signed on the dotted line, said the elder Ndwayana.
Mulovhedzi, who is from Limpompo, has long been expected to defend his title against Ndwayana, though the deal has fallen through on a number of occasions. It’s still not yet clear which promoter will win the bid to stage the fight. However, the Ndwayana camp saying they are ready to take the fight anywhere the champ feels.
“We heard that they don’t want to come to the Eastern Cape so we are ready to go to them as long the fight finally takes place", said Bulelani.
Grahamstown has yet to have an EC champion, though Ndwayana has put Makana boxing on the map. Ndwayana improved his record with the win on Saturday to 12 wins in 14 contests.
