The search for missing Theresa Buys is officially over. The body of the Cradock teacher who went missing almost three weeks ago was found in the Fish River.
Cradock police spokesperson Captain Stephanie Smith confirmed that a man has been arrested in connection with her murder.
Farm worker Marius Isaacs was arrested after Buys' car was found in Cradock's Michausdal area after Buys disappeared, Smith said.
Isaacs will be back in court on 17 September.
A post-mortem will be conducted to determine cause of death, Smith said in a telephonic interview with Grocott's Mail. Smith praised the K-9 unit, search and rescue dogs, and the mounted unit for their hard work in locating Buys' body.
“The body was discovered on Friday afternoon after an intense search by the K-9 unit, search and rescue dogs, police divers, and the mounted unit” said Smith.
Buys, who lived alone in a house on a farm 8km outside Cradock, was reported missing on Tuesday 5 August when she failed to arrive at the primary school where she taught.
Her car was also reported stolen. She was last seen wearing a long denim jacket, blue jeans and black Bronx shoes.
Smith said that she would like to commend the people of Cradock for their support and cooperation throughout the incident.
